The Walking Dead season 9’s highly anticipated midseason premiere episode arrives early for AMC Premiere subscribers, and here’s how you can watch it. Season 9 has been a year of major change for The Walking Dead, most notably with the departure from the cast of lead character Rick Grimes. While Andrew Lincoln hasn’t severed his ties with the overall franchise - in fact, he’s set to star in a trio of TV movies for AMC - it’s been made clear that Rick won’t ever return to the main series.

Another major character, Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) also exited the Walking Dead cast during season 9, although producers have left the door open for her to hopefully return in some fashion during season 10. Maggie’s departure was quite unceremonious when compared to the heavily hyped final appearance of Rick that consumed season 9’s early marketing. Hopefully Cohan is indeed willing to eventually come back, as it would be a shame for such a great character to be left with such an underwhelming send off.

While The Walking Dead’s ratings continue to decline little by little, season 9 has seen a bit of a creative resurgence for the show. Fewer people than ever are watching week to week, but The Walking Dead’s audience used to be so massive that, even now, millions of people watch each new episode. Those millions likely can’t wait to see season 9’s midseason return, so AMC has decided to give it to them early, making it available online on Super Bowl Sunday, a week before it airs on the regular AMC channel. Here’s how to tune in.

The Walking Dead Midseason Premiere Airs After The Super Bowl

Season 9’s midseason premiere - titled “Adaptation” - becomes available on AMC’s subscription service AMC Premiere at 12pm EST on Super Bowl Sunday. This is a full week before the episode’s originally scheduled debut on Sunday, February 10 at 9pm EST. Newly introduced villains The Whisperers are expected to make their presence felt in a big way, and it could lead to major trouble for Daryl and company. However, AMC isn’t providing this special treat free of charge. AMC Premiere costs money, and it’s important fans know what they’re getting into before they try to watch Walking Dead’s midseason return early.

How To Watch The Season 9 Midseason Premiere Early

First off, the AMC Premiere service is only available within the U.S., so any Walking Dead fans outside AMC’s home country are out of luck. Secondly, AMC Premiere costs $4.99 per month, and offers ad-free episodes of most of AMC’s original programs, early access opportunities such as this one, some extended episodes, additional scenes not included in the TV broadcasts, original digital series, and a selection that movies aren’t edited for content like those shown on the AMC channel.
